Dear Family and Friends,
This has been another very wet, dreary, cloudy week here in California and I have been loving every second of it. Before I go on though, I have a few responses to write.
1. OK, before I forget to ask, I have one question for you! What are all these boxes of books that keep coming???? I think we have gotten 7 or 8 so far. Did you buy the books or did someone give them to you?
Those books are ones that I have collected throughout my mission, mostly during the time I've been here in Pasadena. The library here has a book sale every month and we help them set it up and they give us free books in return. There are also a few that I have purchased along with some other things that people have given me throughout my mission. I decided that it would be easiest to just ship them home ahead of time. You can just put the boxes somewhere in my closet that's out of the way.
2. Also, you didn’t say anything about what I said in my last letter about you not working when you come home. What are your thoughts on that?
My thoughts are this: I would like to do something with my time... and get paid at least minimum wage to feed my near empty bank account (just because I don't want to spend all of my time playing video games doesn't mean that I don't plan on buying a couple new ones after I get home). I also want to make a little extra money to put aside in some investments. Still, I am not decided on the issue and probably won't make one until after I get home.
This week has been pretty good for me, but it has also been a little tough for me as well. As it gets closer to my coming home, I have felt a little bit of the pressure of how I am going to adjust to such a big change. Still it has been a really good week. We were able to have another lesson with Carlos this week which went really well, and we have gotten back in contact with the Ambrose family. We have not had much else happen this week. Well, I have to write my letter to President Pike before I run out of time. Until next week.

A Really Neat Experience
Dear Family and Friends,
It has been another dreary, rainy week here in California, and I have been loving it. Well, first off, I'll answer a few questions.
1. Any progress with Carlos?? Or Brother Ambrose and his family??
We have not had much progress with either of them. We have not been able have a lesson with Carlos at all or even talk to his mom to set up an appointment, and the Ambrose family has been super busy with school and other stuff, but we are still trying to work with both of them.
Are you liking your new apartment?
Very much so. It's been a huge upgrade in environment to us.
Dad, I think that the schedule you have planned for me looks fine. You can go ahead and register for me and we can make changes later if we have to. I also am fine with living in Wyview. That was where I wanted to live in the first place anyways.
As for things that have happened this week, not much has happened. We've mostly been trying to set up appointments and contact referrals. I also had a really neat experience. It was another encounter with someone I had taught in Glendale. It was an excommunicated sister that we had been asked to teach there. She wanted to get back into the church, but she had some issues that were preventing her from doing so, and then I left the area so I didn't hear any more about her. Well, during one of the conference sessions, I saw a woman that looked very familliar sitting in front of us. I thought that I knew her from somewhere, but she looked like someone from my last area named Sister Valorie, so I thought that I was just mistaking her for that person. Well yesterday we had stake conference and she was there again and this time she recognized me and told me who she was. Apparantly she had moved to the Pasadena area and that she is getting prepared to be re-baptized and that her fiance is investigating the church and is also planning to get baptized. The funny thing was that after I realized who she was, I remembered that when I first met Sister Valorie, I had thought to myself that she looked like this same sister that I ran into again. It was really nice to see her and it was amazing to see how different she looked. There was a light around her that wasn't there before, kind of like with Adrian. It really was another blessing from the Lord. Well, I am out of time again, but I can't wait for next week. Hopefully I will have more to tell you all.

Hello From Wet and Rainy Southern California
Dear family and friends,
Things have been very wet and dreary here in California the last week. We have had a couple of thunder storms and today it has been raining all day with no sign of the usual California sunshine. I guess this is just one way I am being prepared for coming home. Thank you mom and dad for your letters and e-mails. I needed the support and advice, but most importantly the sound of your voice through your letters/e-mails.
Anyways, congratulations to Jace on his first assignment. I had a feeling that you were going to be learning that other language (I can't remember what its called, nor how to spell it if I could). Congratulations to Kinzie as well for doing so well in school. I am so proud of you. Keep up the good work so you can get that iPad. I think that it's cool that dad got an iPad as well. Alot of people here have one so I have gotten to see it myself, and I think that it looks pretty cool. I would like to get one myself after I get home, but I heard that they are going to come out with a new version of it sometime at the beginning of next year, so just in case you were thinking of getting one for me mom and dad, I think that it would be better to wait and save your money. I'm sorry to hear that your football team hasn't been doing so well this year Jack. Just keep doing your best and make sure that you always have the desire to improve yourself even when you do win. That way, when I get to see you play next year, I can watch you win all of your games. And before I forget mom, you are 100% correct on the information about the chapel location and meeting times. Just make sure that it is the Foothill building in Arcadia, because there are two buildings in our mission that are on foothill: one in Arcadia and one somewhere else (La Cresenta I think).
Well, things have still been a little slow here. We were not able to meet with Carlos at all this week or with Brother Ambrose and his family. Things have been very busy with all of them, and we think that Carlos' mom is trying to avoid us for the moment (apparently she goes through these cycles). We did, however, have a lesson with a man named Andy and his friend Tom. They had come to church about a month ago as part of an agreement with some other elders to go to each other's church one time. When they came to church, it just so happened that the lesson in gospel principles class was on the priesthood and they said that they were interested in talking with us more about that. We finally had that appointment with them this week, and it went very well. They don't agree with everything that we believe, but they are very friendly and are opening to at least learning. Andy is graduate from a religious university here in Pasadena called Fuller Theological Seminary and we had mentioned to him that the people that come from that school have been very friendly and open to us unlike most of the other religious universities that I have encountered on my mission, and he told us that he might have an idea about getting us in touch with some of the school officials there to have do a presentation or some other thing to teach the gospel there, so we are very excited about that. Other than that, not much else has happened here, other than helping a new family move in on Friday. We were just finishing up weekly planing when we got a call from one of the counselors in the elders quorum presidency asking us to help them move the family in. Then he told us where there new apartment was and it happened to be just down the street from us. we could even see our apartment complex from their bedroom window. They are a really cool family and they are very missionary minded, so we are excited for them to be in the ward.
Oh, I just remembered something really cool that happened on Tuesday. Alright, so we were at the church that night to do an activity with two of the new ward missionaries in our ward, and while we were waiting we saw all of these youth coming into the church and found out that they were doing a huge tri-stake mutual activity that night. We went outside to get out of the crowd and the noise in the foyer, when three girls that looked familiar went inside, and then I realised that they were the daughters of a less active family that we had been teaching in Glendale (these girls in particular had been real thorns in my side). I was suprised to see them at a church activity, let alone at our building, and they were suprised that I was still a missionary. They thought that I was done a long time ago. I was also suprised at how well they took it seeing me there. I was so persistant with them that I thought that for sure they would be annoyed to see me again, but they actually looked a little happy. Then as I went to go back outside, I heard someone at the door call out my name, and I looked up and saw one of my old investigators named Adrian from that same ward in Glendale. He had finally been baptized a few months ago and he had also been someone that I worked very hard with to help him learn the gospel. We were both so happy to see each other and he kept on saying how much of an influence I had been to him in his conversion. All I had really done was be his friend and talked with him about anime and video games (see mom and dad, I wasn't completely wasting my time with those things). It was so cool to see the change that the gospel has broght into his life. I can't wait until I can see him again at my farewell. Well I have to go now, so until next week.

Last Transfer of My Mission
Dear Family and Friends,
Hello from California. I guess I'll start off by answering a few questions from your e-mails. First off Jace, I actually have kept forgetting to mention it to everyone, but I was released from my service as District Leader a few days into the transfer. President Pike re-organized the zone a bit to make things more efficient for meetings, and there ended up being two District Leaders in the same district, so I was released. I was actually a little relieved for it. It was certainly more stressful with the additional work, and I don't know how well I would have done at fulfilling those additional duties this transfer given the state I was in at the beginning of this transfer. Also, Dad, I have no problem with what will happen this coming transfer. Of course I would love to stay here in Pasadena for the rest of my mission, but I would be alright with being sent to one more area. In the end, it's whatever the Lord wants that matters. Well, today we got to go to the temple and it was a wonderful experience. We got to go see the new visitor's center that just opened up recently on the temple grounds and it is really really cool. There is a lot of cool interactive technology that is used there to teach about the church and the gospel. We will have to see if we can go there when you come to pick me up.
Carlos is still doing well. We had a lesson with him last Sunday and it turned out to be a really great experience. His mom was there to sit in and participate in the lesson, and afterwards, she asked us to give her a blessing because she had injured her knee at work. The blessing turned out to be a very spiritual experience for her and her family, and she is still very happy to be having us over to teach her family. We also started teaching a less-active member named Brother Ambrose and his non-member wife last Sunday. I think I might have mentioned him in one of my previous e-mails. Anyways, we had a great lesson with them and we have another lesson planned with them for this week, so I am looking forward to that. Well I have to get going now, but I will write again on Monday to let you all know how transfers ended up. Thank you for your love and support.

I found out that I can do all of that at the mission office, but I have no idea what I am supposed to do to register and all of that stuff I'm supposed to do once I sit down in front of the computer. A Happy Birthday!
Dear Family and Friends,
Well, I guess I'll start by admitting my mistake and letting you all know that this was not the week that we go to the temple after all, so today is our normal p-day. Next week, on the 22nd is the day that we go to the temple, so that Wednesday will be our p-day. Sorry if the mix-up was inconvienient for anyone. Thank you so much for the birthday package. I loved it. It is always nice to get a suprise gift of Ramune and Hi-Chews, and I loved all of the cards that you all sent me. The members here treated me well for my birthday. Our Ward Mission Leader had us come over yesterday for a little cake and ice cream to celebrate. He is so cool, and I love how focused he is on missionary work. Rather than talking about what I was going to do when I am done with my mission, he wanted to talk about what I can do while I am still here in the Pasadena Ward to leave my "legacy" as he called it in the ward. I really enjoyed it. Then, after that we went to visit the Ambrose Family. Sister Ambrose's son is less-active, but he is very nice and I have had many good, long conversations with him (long as in hour to an hour and a half of flowing conversation, not my usual long of 30 minutes of broken conversation). He has three sons, and he is married to someone from Guatemala, all of whom are not members. Well, last night he told us before he left that he and his entire family had decided to take the missionary lessons and we set up a time to start teaching them next Sunday. It was sooo cool. Apparently Sister Ambrose had asked them all to take the lessons after we had taken her through a special tour of the church building that we are doing with investigators right now and they agreed, so I am really excited for them. Her son is really, really cool, and as you probably guessed, I enjoy talking with him. Yesterday he had a Lord of the Rings marathon like you do mom and dad. Before we left, he showed us the replica that he had of Anduril, Aragorn's sword. It was HUGE and so cool. If it had been sharpened, I think it could have been used as a real sword. I got some pictures of myself with it. I'll have to send them to you next week. Other than that, not much else happened this week. We were not able to teach Carlos this week because of schedules, but he and Jennifer all came to church with their older sister yesterday, and we are working to set up a lesson with them for this week. I am really excited for this week. Thank you all once again for your love and support.

Happy Labor Day!
Dear Family and Friends,
Happy Labor Day to everyone!!! President Pike moved our p-day to today so that we could use the holiday time to find people to teach. Well, to be honest, things have been a little tough for us this week. We only have one investigator right now that we are teaching. His name is Carlos. I can't remember if I mentioned him before, but he is part of a less active family, and we are working on activating his family and teaching him the gospel. We have been having some pretty good success with the family. One of his sisters, Jennifer, is coming back to church now, and his mother and remaining siblings are starting to warm up to the missionaries. Last Saturday, we went over to see if we could catch his mother at home because Linda, Carlos's active sister, told us that their mom wanted for him to start going to the Pentacostal church that she has been going to. We did catch her at home and we were able to talk with her and sort things out, so we are still going to be taching Carlos and he can still come to church. It was funny too, because the mother invited us to stay to have dinner (she is Hispanic, so we couldn't refuse), and while we were waiting for her to finish making the meal, Jennifer came in and we started talking about how she is going to church again and to tease her, I made a few comments to her regarding her "dusty" scriptures and how I was glad to see that they looked as good as new and that with all of the progression she is making, her scriptures will soon look like they are actually being used (looking back on the comments I made, I think I have inherited some of your humor dad), and when the mother heard that she smiled really big and said "I like you". They are a really cool family. Jennifer is such a good sport about my teasing/persistance, and Carlos is such a good student and is really smart for his age. Eventually I think that they will all become active once again. Well, I have to go now, but I will write again next week. By the way, next week we go to the temple, so our p-day will be on Wednesday next week, so don't expect anything until then. Also, mom, I just remembered that it would be nice to get a new razor for my birthday. The one I have now works, but a piece of it is broken so it does not work as well as it should. Other than that, I can't think of anything that I want that I could use until after November 7th, so I can wait until then to give you a wish list. Thanks.

A Great Day in the Mission Field!
Dear Family and Friends,
I am really excited about things that are happening this week. Yesterday I had a really good day. After church, my companion and I decided to stop by a few former investigators to check-up on them. We stopped by three houses and were able to get in contact with someone at all three places and make plans for appointments. Then, at dinner we got a referral from the Sister missionaries in the Spanish Branch to teach someone that they had just contacted, so after dinner we stopped by that person and set up an appointment with her for this week. She sounded really excited and eager to learn about the gospel, though a bit suprised at how quickly we responded to the Sisters' call (afterwards we ran into the sisters who were still knocking that street). And then when we ran into the sisters, one of them, Sister Clawson, told me about an investigator who we had passed off to her when I was in the Heritage Ward. You might remember me mentioning a Jordan Cohen in one of my e-mails from then. She is Jewish, but her boyfriend, who is a member, had told us that she wanted to take the lessons. She was doing well, but our lessons were always very far apart and we had only been able to teach her three times out of the two transfers I was there. We started teaching her when we found out that she lived out of our area, so we had Sister Clawson and her companion start teaching her. Well, Sister Clawson told me yesterday that Jordan was baptized a while ago and that she is super solid in the church. I was so happy to hear how great things were going with her. I feel so blessed right now even just thinking about it. The Lord has truly granted me many great blessings, and I see so clearly how I would have accomplished nothing on my mission without His help and grace. Well, I have to go now. I still haven't written my letter to President Pike yet, so I have to do that before I run out of time. Thank you so much for everything that you do. I pray that God will continue to bless and watch over all of you.

I am really excited about things that are happening this week. Yesterday I had a really good day. After church, my companion and I decided to stop by a few former investigators to check-up on them. We stopped by three houses and were able to get in contact with someone at all three places and make plans for appointments. Then, at dinner we got a referral from the Sister missionaries in the Spanish Branch to teach someone that they had just contacted, so after dinner we stopped by that person and set up an appointment with her for this week.
